IEP

Redfern is the initial step in IEP's place-based expansion into Sydney.

Redfern is an appropriate pilot location as it has a long history of cultural and historical significance to Indigenous people throughout Australia. There is still a large employment and welfare gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups. 3.8% of Redfern's population is Indigenous, compared with 2.4% nationally.

Redfern is home to many Aboriginal businesses and community organisations including:

  • Wyanga Aged Care
  • NCIE (National Centre for Indigenous Excellence)
  • Gadigal Information Service
  • Mudgin-gal Women's Centre
  • Yaama Dhiyaan (catering)
  • Babana Mens Group
  • Tribal Warrior Association
  • Les Tobler Constructions
  • Aboriginal Housing Company
  • Tranby Aboriginal College

"The Block" has become representative of the struggle for survival of urban Indigenous communities

Commitment from key Corporates, the Redfern Waterloo Authority and community leaders has been achieved. An initial strategy for IEP's support to Redfern has been developed.

IEP CAN MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE BY CONNECTING THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY WITH THE RESOURCES OF CORPORATE AUSTRALIA.
