Projects
In its first year of operation IEP converted
$250,000 in donations into $7 million of on-the-ground programs
and projects that:
Provided the foundations
for income security,
Focussed on improvements
to lifestyle standards,
Invested in self-development
and self-reliance programs for young indigenous people,
Evaluated &
assisted 40 new entrepreneurial projects across Cape York.
IEP partners have assisted in projects with community and government
ranging from large regional projects to small family based projects.

Many projects have been undertaken with selected examples shown below: |
This project assists and educates families on how
to negotiate family goals and implement a savings budget for agreed
goals (such as education accounts, furniture and white goods purchases,
dental and medical expenses). Westpac have committed staff to assist
over a 3 year period and families have been very keen to join the
scheme in the pilot trials so far. |
This program works with youth at risk to teach
them how to work hard at an enterprise (commercial fishing or oil
production and sales businesses) and become functional members of
society. IEP partners have assisted with planning, funding and the
commercial operations of this social enterprise. The improvement in
youth behaviours have been dramatic.

This
project will provide computer, internet and video conferencing facilities
in all the 16 remote Cape communities and is currently in the roll
out stage. BCG were involved in developing the feasibility study and
subsequent commercial development while Westpac assisted with staff
training. |
Through innovative business hubs, over 20 families’
small business ideas are being incubated. The BCG and Foundation for
Young Australians have helped set up these hubs and already several
small tourism businesses, native honey enterprises, and furniture
sales and production activities have started.
|
This
network aims to develop young indigenous people into the leaders of
tomorrow. Partners have assisted with training in leadership and IT,
and in developing business enterprise through advice, mentoring and
connections with suppliers and markets. |
Several major projects are being implemented to utilise regional economic
opportunities in areas such as fishing, building, agriculture and
tourism. |
This project was developed by BCG staff members
from concept to feasibility study to set up an accomodation and training
facility in Weipa to improve educational facilities in the region.
Funding has been approved by a partnership of private industry and
government bodies and the development is already underway. |
Working with senior management of several Cape York organisations,
partners are involved in major organisation change management, talent
identification and personnel development projects to improve operational
performance across all activities. |
